Railway Lines in HP – Train Transport

Mainly there are 3 main lines in H.P:

1.Kalka-Shimla Rail Line –

  • This line is Narrow Gauze (Width of Rail Track is 0.76 m).
  • The work of this track was started in 1891.
  • In 1903 first train ran on this track.
  • This railway track is 96 km long.
  • There are 103 tunnels in this, in which Barog (Solan) is the longest tunnel.
  • There are 869 bridge on this line which is 3% of the total Railway Line.
  • Bhalkhu Ramu helped in Search of this track by survey through stick.
  • On July 7, 2008 UNESCO declared this track World Heritage.
  • Chief Engineer of this was HS Harington

2. Joginder Nagar Pathankot Rail Track

  • This Narrow Gauze track was constructed in 1926 and first train ran on this in 1929.
  • On this track there are 2 tunnels and 993 bridges.
  • Gaj Khadd bridge in the longest bridges of Narrow Gauze track in India.
  • The length of this track is 113 km.
  • This is known as Kangra Valley Railway.
  • Ahju is the highest Railway Station (1290 m) of this line.

3. Una Nangal Dam – Chandur Railway Track –

  • This is the only Broad Gauze railway track of H.P.
  • Its length has become 33 km from 16 km.
  • It was inaugurated by Minister of state for Railways Janeshwar Mishra in 1991.
